Technical Summary

VS/Cobol Interpreter (VCI) is defined to CICS as a standard CICS application. It is designed to be CICS release independent and supports CICS release 4.1 and above.

There are two (2) operating modes in the product, WARN and REAL. WARN mode gathers information on executed VS/Cobol programs and shows from which RPL library the program was fetched from. A batch program analyser is also available.
REAL mode tells VCI to dynamically install our VS/Cobol support into CICS for further VS/Cobol program execution.

In releases prior to CICS Transaction Server 3.1, VCI will turn itself into WARN mode. In TS 3.1 and above, the operating mode is forced to 'REAL'.

VS/Cobol Interpreter supports programs written in any Cobol versions but will interact with VS/Cobol programs only.

Programs to be handled can be explicitly defined to VCI by using the appropriate VCI menus or the 'Automatic program detection' feature can be set to ''yes' to trap VS/Cobol programs automatically. Wildcard definitions can be used to include or exclude programs from VCI processing when entering program names manually.

A simple yet powerful online menu system is provided to view the current status of VCI and your applications. Updates and changes can be made online and then activated through the flexible user friendly menu interface.

Part of the VS/Cobol Interpreter product activation is the execution of VS/Cobol programs to ensure the sucessfull product installation.

VS/Cobol Interpreter can also be used in conjunction with our Macro Level Interpreter (MLI) product for installations requiring CICS Macro Level support.
